Developing Self-Advocacy with Middle School Students: Our Journey

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

When students with learning differences have strong self-advocacy skills, they become drivers of their own support team. Students with strong self-advocacy skills are more self-aware, engaged in their learning, successful in life after secondary-school and have transferable life skills. Also, when students are strong self-advocates, they raise awareness of learning differences among all school stakeholders, increasing inclusivity. By explicitly teaching self-advocacy skills, we hope to transform students’ ownership of their own learning in inclusive schools.
